GENEALOGY
My Naming Practices
-
September 29,
2005
A few notes on ways I've tried to conventionalize the quirks often found in
French-Canadian names from centuries past.
Genealogy Family Pages

I've generated some pages that show all the names
in my tree on family group pages, with ancestor and descendent trees for each
individual. Created with
Gen2Web software.

I've put a new compilation book up of my latest research going back about 6
generations on the Weber side and the
Martin side. The book includes information
on the military regiment in Canada that ancestors in several of the older
generations belonged to, as well as information on the "Filles du Roi" or
"King's Daughters", which were young French women who traveled to Canada in the
1600's to marry the French settlers there. (I'll update with further generations
when I figure out how to do it so it's not 400 pages long! Also, the compilation
is in PDF format, for which you need
Adobe Acrobat Reader.)

Descendents Reports

Here are outline-style descendent reports for the four family lines of my
mother's grandparents, the Martins,
Cyrs,
Morrissettes,
and Bourgeois's.
Ancestral Charts

One Page
Genealogy Software
These charts are fabulous! They include timelines if you like, and you can
start with any name in your family tree as the 'Root' of the tree. All you need
is a GED file of your genealogy and the program creates a PDF file of the chart.
You can't print the chart but, for a very reasonable price, the authors of the
software will print
it for you on a chart up to 3.5' x 6'!
Marcella (Martin) Weber's Chart
The above chart actually extends to the
year 817 (no, really!), so I've created a separate chart that starts with
Michel Guerette in the above chart and
shows all of his ancestors to the 800's.

A few sites from others in the area where I grew up who are researching their
family histories.
William Soderlund
- Has 3 separate genealogies shown on RootsWeb for his ancestors in the
Hamel,
Soderlund, and
Berglund families.
Hamel, Minnesota

Named for a family in my ancestry, Hamel, Minnesota is the quintessential
small American town. What's so great about it? Well,
here you can see a picture of Hamel from the Minneapolis Institute of
Arts' Photography collection. And the
Lamont Cranston
Band
began in Hamel. They also host Minnesota's
biggest Rodeo. Talk about your 'Upper Mississippi Shakedown'.
